Now Recruiting: Join the FTC Robotics Team
Our FTC robotics team has been busy all summer bringing robots into the community! From Mayhem in May to the Penfield Independence Day Parade, the Music Festival and Food Truck Rodeo, and the Kids Fest Concert Series at the Penfield Amphitheater and Kiwanis Stage, we’ve loved every chance to connect with families, spark interest in STEM, and give kids (and even parents) the chance to drive one of our robots.
A huge thank-you to everyone who stopped by our booth or joined us at an event this summer. Your energy and support keep our team moving forward!
Hosting an event? We’d love to attend with robot demos or outreach activities—just contact us!
Last night marked the end of this year’s Kids Fest Concert Series at the Penfield Amphitheater and Kiwanis Stage. Our team had such a great time meeting so many families and kids—teaching them a little about FIRST Tech Challenge robotics and giving guests the chance to try driving one of our robots.
It’s always exciting to see the smiles, curiosity, and interest in STEM that these events inspire. Thank you to everyone who stopped by to learn more about our team and FIRST!
We kicked off the weekend at the Penfield Music Festival and Food Truck Rodeo, held at the Penfield-Perinton Kiwanis Stage behind Penfield Town Hall. It was a perfect evening filled with performances from Penfield Central School District music students and the delicious aroma of local food trucks.
Our team brought the energy with live robot demos, inviting kids, students—and even a few adults—to test their skills behind the controls of our award-winning robot. We also had a great time sharing what FIRST Tech Challenge is all about and recruiting new team members for the upcoming season FIRST AGE.
The momentum continued on Saturday as FTC Team 6996 presented at the first-ever Flower City Frenzy, an off-season FIRST Robotics Competition (FRC) event hosted by Team 191 X-Cats in collaboration with the Rochester City School District. The event took place at East High School in Rochester, NY.
Our mission at this event was to introduce FRC teams to the FIRST Tech Challenge and help grow new FTC teams in Monroe County, Rochester, and the Finger Lakes region. Team 6996 did an outstanding job breaking down the program and speaking with FRC mentors and students about how FTC can enhance STEM opportunities for middle and high school students.

This is an excellent opportunity for students and families to meet the team, learn about the FIRST Tech Challenge program, and discover how they can get involved in the exciting world of competitive robotics.
Our award-winning team, Oncoming Storm (FTC Team 6996), offers opportunities beyond building and programming robots. Students also participate in:
Writing & Team Journaling
Public Speaking & Presentations
Graphic Design & Digital Media
Strategy, Outreach & Community Engagement
Whether your student is a coder, builder, communicator, or creative problem-solver, there’s a place for them on the team!
At the 8th Annual Mayhem in May, hosted by Electric Mayhem in Buffalo, NY, seven FTC teams from across the New York Excelsior Region came together for a friendly off-season scrimmage—one last chance to dive into this year's game, Into the Deep.
Penfield’s Oncoming Storm brought not one, but two robots to the event, helping fill out a competitive field of eight. The scrimmage gave our team a chance to shake things up—mixing members across roles, letting everyone try new tasks, and gaining valuable on-field experience.
It was a day full of learning, laughter, and great competition—a fantastic way to cap off the season with friends, old and new.
Join Oncoming Storm at the RIT Gordon Field House and Activities Center on Saturday, March 15, from 8:30 AM – 2:00 PM for the FIRST Robotics Competition (FRC)!
Meet the team & see our award-winning robot
Take the controls and drive Demi Roboto
Enjoy games, coloring, and other fun activities
This is an excellent opportunity to experience the excitement of robotics, meet our talented team, and get hands-on with real engineering! All ages are welcome!
We can’t wait to see you there!
